COACH FOR AUCKLAND. , By Tel: graph.—Press Association. Auckland, .uist Night. Mr. J. H. Watts has received a cablegram from Lord Hawke recommending G. J. Thompson, of Northamptonshire, as coach to the Auckland Cricket Associ-" ation. The Association have cabled engaging Thompson. Thompson was born en October 27, K77, and is therefore in his ithirty-fourth year. In the season 1903-4 he was one of the two professional cricketera included in Lord Hawkc's team for the New Zealand tour, and did exceedingly well during the last visit of the Australian eleven to England. In 1909 Thompson was selected for England, and performed well. He was also a member of the M.C.C. team to tour South Africa in 1909-10, and besides bowling well was second only to J. B. Hobbs in batting averages in the iive test matches in first-class matches. During the last English season Thompson scored 1021 ru7is (including two centuries) for an avenago of 23.74, and took 129 wickets at an average of 17.86
