Registration under the universal military service regulations Eas exceeded official expectations by many thousands, and the Defence Department is confronted with financial difficulties owing to the unexpected call on its resources. A sum of £IBO,OOO is available for the scheme, whereas the department is already committed to the extent of £220,000.
