BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The following reports will be presented to the ne\. meeting of the Borough Council. WORKS COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Works Committee there were present: His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Brown, Buxton, Buttimore, Clarke, Morey and Stocker. The following resolutions were adopted:— That the borough engineer *ue authorised to kerb the footpath on both sides of Liardet street from Gilbert to Pendarvcs street. That upon Mr. Carthew accepting a tender for the erection of a dwelling in Fillis street, the Council will favorably consider his application for an entrance to his section,

That a copy of the letter from the Hospital Board in reference to the removal of nightsoil from premises in Molesworth and Barret streets, be forwarded to the sanitary contractor.

That the accident insurance be placed with the Ocean Accident Corporation for the ensuing year, and that the operation of the resolution passed on July 11, 1910, be suspended for twelve months.

That the Council hereby resolves that the provision of section 117 of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall not apply to those parts of Dawson and Vivian streets, do which sections 358 and 357 have frontage. That the billiard saloon proprietors be informed that the Council cannot see its way to accede to their request for an extension of their closing hours, nor to reduce the license fee.

That the National Insurance Company be informed that the Council) last year obtained quotations for the fidelity guarantees as for a permanent risk, and cannot see its way to change i.the risk at present. That the borough engineer be instructed to give eiTect to his recommendation for kerbing and channelling on.the,following streets:T-The work already authorised in Gilbert street. The whole of, the balance of kerbing required to complete both sides of (jilhert street from the Park entrance to Cover street. Currie street kerbing and channelling, both sides from Gill street to Devon street. Currie street channelling both sides from Deyon to Courtenay streets. Devon street kerbing and channelling both sides from Morley to Mount Edgecombe street.

That upon payment of the necessary fees and the carrying out of the conditions mentioned in the report ol the superintendent of the Fire Brigade, licenses he granted for the following public buildings:—Theatre Royal, Drill Hall, St. Andrew's Church and Hall, Whiteley Hall, Foresters' Hall, Baptist Church, Salvation Army Hall, St. Mary's Church and Hall, Catholic Church and" Roland Hall, Primitive Methodist Church and Hall, Plymouth Brethren Hall (Shaw's buildings).

That in view of the fact that it will be necessary shortly to revise the whole of the by-laws of the borough, consideration of the suggested regulations for kinematograph, biograph and magic lantern entertainments be deferred until such a revision is being made. ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. The following were present at a meeting of the Electric Light Committee: Councillors Brown (in the chair), Arnbury, Buxton, Buttimorc, Clarke, Morey and Stockcr. The following report was adopted:— That the application of the Agricultural Society for the use of electric light and motor be granted on the same terms as previously. That the electrical engineer be instructed to move back to the kerb the electric light pole at the intersection of Devon and Mangorei roads,

That in accordance with the recommendations of the electrical engineer, and subject to the formal contract being entered Into, the tender of £2939 12s 6d, submitted by Messrs •furnbull and Joncsj for the supply of electrical machinery and plant as set out in the tender and the engineer's specifications, be accepted. That tenders be invited for the erection of forebay and pipeline, such tender to close within three months from date of advertisement. ABATTOIR COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Abattoir Committee the following were present:—His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Buttimore, Buxton and Morey, and also the abattoir manager and Mr. 0. W. Sole (butchers' representative). A deputation for the Butchers' Association waited on the Council with reference to a reduction in the killing fees, consideration of the matter being finally deferred to enable the Association to set its proposal in writing. That in addition to their ordinary wages, the slaughtermen be paid at the following rates for all stock killed for export, the proportion payable to each slaughterman being fixed by the manager:—Large cattle 2s per head, calves up to lOOlbs Is per head, calves from 1001b to 2001b Is Od per bead, sheep and lambs 3d, and pigs Is per head. That with the exception of special engineer work' referred by the Council cil to the borough engineers from time to time, all matters and works in connection with lhe abattoirs and abattoir reserve be under the supervision of the abattoir manager. That the electrical engineer supply an estimate of the cost of installing' the electric light into the abattoir cottage. That the abattoir manager be authorised to put on two liicn to grub the gorso in No. 2 paddock. RESERVES COMMITTEE.

The following were present at a meeting of tlio Reserves Committee:—Conn-: cillors Buttimorc (i» the chair), Ambury,: Buxton and Brown. The following r'esohitioHS were carried:— That the subdivision of the Avenue road be amended as directed by the committee on the ground. That in view of the expensive filling which would be required in Hcndrio street, sections 1757 to 1791, inclusive, be withheld from leasing when the lease of the other ssctions are put up to auction. That the borough solicitors be instructed Jo make the necessary dedications anJI prepare the special orders, laying out and naming the new streets at the reserve, and to take whatever other steps may be necessary. That the committee be authorised to have the necessary lithograph plans prepared to takß other steps necessary to enable the leases to be put up to auction. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. There were present at a meeting of the Executive Committee:—llis Worship the Mayor, Councilors Brown, Clark and

Mannix. The following resolutions were I adopted:— \ The plans and specifications for the [ cutting and filling in of Hobson street between Courtenay and Lemon streets '■'■ re approved and the borough engineer instructed to invite tenders for the work. The borough engineer was authorised to procure the necessary cement pipes for the above, and to place the same in position by day labor. The borough engineer was authorised to continue the sewers from the Hospital 'gate, in Dawson street, to extend as far as Mr. Luscombe's property in Barrett street. The borough engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the formation of Leach street, including the intersection at Gover street, and the town clerk was instructed to obtain the necessary easements from Messrs Gladden and Benbow and from Mr. W. Webber.
