BOXING

WESTPORT TOURNAMENT. 3y Telegraph.—Frees Association. Westport, Last Night. The Westport Boxing Association's tournament concluded on Saturday night in the presence of a large gathering. The takings on the two days totalled about £125. The amateur events were well contested. A six-round bout between Pruet (Millerton) and Lynch (Westport) was won by the former. The professional bout between W. Cootes (Westport) and Jack Griffin (Greymouth), for a purse of £SO, went the full fifteen rounds, and was won on points by Cootes. This was the best performance that has token place in the district. A special medal was presented by Mr. D. Smith to the competitor in the amateur events giving the most scientific display, and was won by Senior, of Westport. Cootes and Griffin are being matched for another fifteen-round bout for a purse of £6O.
