UNITED STATES AND CANADA

PRESIDENT TAFT'S VIEWS. By Cable—Press Atsocistion—Copyright. Received 5, 12.15 a.m. New York, June 4. President Taft, in addressing the Western Economic Society at Chicago, said the opposition to reciprocity with Canada would not come from the American farmer but the lumber men and printing paper manufacturers. He asserted that farmers were being misled at the instance .of special interests. The fate of the proposed reciprocity agreement would not rest with the Senate, but with the American people. He believed that the real opposition to reciprocity was exaggerated with a view to influencing votes in the Senate. He would be surprised if in six months' time any opposition remained.
