FIRE BRIGADE BALL
The annual effort on behalf of the funds of the New Plymouth Fire Brigade will be made this evening by a strong committee of ladies, many of whom have for years past devoted much labor and attention to the assistance by this means of one of the most deserving of local institutions. On the merits of the local Fire Brigade it is not necessary to enlarge, for everyone knows that they have a splendid record for promptness and efficient service. The firemen give their services tin this dangerous but most necessary calling as volunteers, and, although the finances of the Brigade have been improved under the Fire Board system, there are sundry expenses wlucli have to be met beyond the amount of revenuo provided by the Board. It is only once a year that the appeal for funds'is made, and, in this appeal there is the merit that the people are given value for their money in the entertainment itself, hundreds of juveniles in mand and varied fancy costumes contributing to a. gay and happy scene in the theatre. On both grounds we appeal to the public to attend to-night's function in large numbers.
