The moral tone of the throng on the course was all that could be desired, and that fine institution, the London police, was almost superllHous in such well-behaved surroundings. Five Welshmen returning from the Derby slept in the same room in a small London hotel. One hung his coat on a gas-tap, supposing it to be a hook. The men narrowly escaped suffocation from the escape of gas. They were carried to a hospital and recovered.
