NEW PLYMOUTH (1) T . ELTHAM (0). Tha New Plymouth team journeyod to Elfliam yesterday and played the local team. The weather conditions were perfect, but the ground was all against a good exhibition of hockey, and flic game, although at times hotly contested, was not interesting from a tpectator's point of view. From the bully-off, New Plymouth invaded their opponents' circle and kept up a strong attack for the first qiarter of a* hour, but were unable to score, the rough ground making accurate shooting a difficult matter. Eltham Mien rallied, and gave the visitors a busy time defending, but the defence of the flew Plymouth nun was sound, and the nrst spell ended witk no score. The second spell was evenly contested, first one side and tken tho other attacking and ,t was not until ten minutes before time that tho itiaitors ssored. Prom some scrambling play i„ front of ft Wtham goal, Potts sent in a hot one which beat the goalkeeper. The local men worked hard to equalise the scores but wera not successful, and the game ended,_ New Plymouth 1, Eltham nil. Infringements were numerous, and the referee repeatedly had occasion to penalise both sides for breaches of th« rule re »tick*» Mr. Taylor made a satisfactory referee.
