LADY DUDLEY'S NARROW ESCAPE. IJy Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 31, 1.30 ji.in. Sydney, May 31. Lord Dudley's motor-car, witii Lady Dudley aboard, was janibed between two moving trams in Oxford-street. The car was badly smashed. Lady Dudley was severely shaken,-but escaped uninjured. VERY SLIGHT DAMAGE. Received 31, 5.40 p.m. Sydney. Mav 31. Lady Dudley was slightly bruised and shaken. The escape was a sensational one. Lady Dudley was taking her daily drive in a aO-hor.-e-power Daimler car, when the chauffeur, the only other occupant of the car, attempted to cross between two trams running in opposite directions, under the impression that one was about to stop at a non-stop street. On realising that a collision was inevitable, the chauffeur swung the ear partially round between the trams, tftc drivers of which eased the speed. The car struck one smartly, and was iambed by the other tram. The splintered glass and woodwork scattered over Lady Dudley, who showed groat coolness and] nerve in her perilous position and declared herself to be unhurt. Lady Dudley considered the accident unavoidable, and returned to Government House in a, cab.
But for the chauffeur's action in swinging and the trams easing, the car between them would have been cut/ in two. The windows and some woodwork were smashed. l*ut otherwise the damage was not serious.
