SUPREME COURT

AUCKLAND SESSION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day Mr. Justice Edwards passed sentence on William Ernest Dawe, inotorman, found guilty last session on a charge of manslaughter of a fellow motorman by bumping of one tram into another. His Honor said the fact that earlier in the evening the prisoner had a, shock through narrowly missing a drunken man should have made him more cautious. A plea that his attention was distracted by the constant ringing of the bell was no excuse for inattention to what was in front. Ho was inclined to think that the accident was a result of miscalculation of the speed of the Car and getting too close to the standing car ahead. Taking into consideration his good character and the jury's .recommendation to mercy and the views of the Judges of the Appeal Court, prisoner would be leniently dealt with, a line of £25 being imposed. DIVORCE COURT. Wellington, Monday. A decree nisi was granted in the divorce case Evelyne Marion Sparling v. Walter Hubert Sparling, on the ground of desertion and misconduct. Wellington, Last Night. In the divorce court a decree nisi was granted in the case R. P. Johnston v. Sarah Johnston and R. Wilson, corespondent. The case was heard in camera.
