The Rev. G. Dent, of Eltham, was in New Plymouth yesterday, en route to Auckland. Mr. H. Blackmore, who was in charge of the local mail staff a few years ago, died in Christchurch last Thursday after a long illness. Sydney reports the death of the Bev. Mr. Anderson Gardiner, Presbyterian minister, who was formerly in charge of the Bluff Presbyterian Church. Miss Doris Mclntyre, violinist, left Ckristchurch last night to join, tine Sheffield Choir orchestra at Aucmand for the Dominion tour.—Press wire. The Mayor is convening a meeting to be held in the Town Hall this morning at 11 o'clock for the purpose of arranging for a public send-off to Mr. 5, Carter. Mr. C. Carter was presented yesterday, by the members of his staff with a Masonic emblem pendant in gold, and Mrs. Carter received a very handsome hand-bag, bearing a silver plate inscribed! with her initials. The late Mr. Olaf Adam Sutherland, of Lawrence, who was buried' on Wed- • nesday, lived the life of a recluse, but managed to amass £30,000. It is understood that he willed his estate for division amongst his nephews in Norway. It is announced that the Rev. A. H. Colville will be married to Miss O. M. Peat, of. the literary staff of the Felding Star, in July next, when they will go Home, returning to take up their residence in Auckland in February next. A London cable states that Sir Charles Alfred Elliott is dead, succumbing to syncope while attending early, communion service. He had a distinguished public career in South Africa, lately holding the position of Special Commissioner of Railways. A London cablegram states that tne ladies of the Empire Club rave a banmet to the wives of the delegates to the Imperial Conference, among those present being the Duchess of Connaughfc and Princess Patricia, Ladies Mersey, Denman, Northcott, and Carringtoß, and Mrs. Joseph Chamberlaf*.
