MOUNT LYELL MINE. Melbourne. May 27. At the half-yearly meeting of the Mount Lyell Mining Company, the chairman stated that the output showed a reduction of 15,000 tons, due to a less plentiful supply of underground labor. The grade of the ore showed an improvement, though the silver contents were lower. The total ore reserves at March 31 were 2,001,297 tons. STOPPING NAPHTHA DRINKING. Melbourne, May 27. In order to prevent the drinking of naphtha, the Minister of Customs has decided to make a new regulation providing for the addition of a half per cent, of coal tar to naphtha. BITTER PIT IN APPLES. Melbourne, May 27. Dr. Jean White's theory that the cause of bitter pit in apples is spraying with arsenate of lead is being tested by the Federal and State Governments.
