UNION S.S. COMPANY.
EXTENSIVE NEW WORKS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Contracts have been let to Messrs. McArthur and Co. and McLean arid Gray, Wellington (jointly), for the erection of extensive works for the Union Steam Ship Company at Evans Bay. The contract is about £21,000, and twelve months have been given the contractors in whicli to complete it. The buildings, which are to be erected on the steel frame principle encased in corrugated iron, will contain engineering, boiler-making and machine shops, electrical department, sawmill, joinery, upholstery and boat-building shed. The erection of these works means that a large portion of the company's work previously carried out at Port Chalmers will be done in Wellington. A start has been made with the new works. The company already has an extensive laundry in course of construction in the same locality.
