ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A WOMAN'S SUICIDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. An inquest was held to-day into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mrs. .Melville, the woman who disappeared from her home at Eaatown on Saturday, and whose body was found in the river on Thursday, three miles from the town. The evidence was such as to justify the coroner in returning a verdict that the woman had committed suicide by drowning whilst of unsound mind.
LYSOL POISONING. Auckland, Friday. Mr--. E. A. White, who was between 55 and 00 years of age, was found dead in bed at her residence, Karangahape road. She had been in straitened circumstances. She purchased some lysol yesterday afternoon, and evidently drank it during the night.
SHOOTING ACCIDENT AT KORU. News was received in New Plymouth last evening that a lad named Smart, about 17 or 18 years of age, son of a settler at Koru, had been seriously injured as the result of a pea-rifle accident at his home. From the meagre particulars available it appears that early in the evening some member of the family heard a gun shot, and on going into the lad's room he was found lying unconscious, having been shot in the head. All the indications point to a accident. The lad was evidently cleaning the pea-rifle when by some means it was discharged. Dr. Wylie, who was immediately sent for, quickly arrived and removed the sufferer to the New Plymouth hospital.
