NEW ZEALAND'S DEFENCE.
SIR JOSEPH WARD'S TRIBUTE TO LORD KITCHENER. By cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, May 25. In liis speech at the Colonial Institute banquet, Sir Joseph Ward, referring to universal military training in New Zealand, paid a tribute to Lord Kitchener, without whose assistance and influence it would never have been possible. He hoped that by-and-bye they would have the inexpressible pleasure of again receiving Lord Kitchener in New Zealand. (Cheers). Whatever contribution New Zealand gave to the support of the.Empire as a -whole and towards the Navy was not due to her limited resources but to the belief of the great majority in the principle of one King, one Empire, and one navy, owned by the whole Empire for the protection of all.
