NOTES ON THE MEETING. [By Telegraph—'"Moturoa."] Wanganui, Last Night. There was splendid racing and no accidents for the opening day of the Wanganui meeting, besides a very large attendance. Faunus went out a hot favorite for the Borough Handicap. St. Toney led to the straight, where Faunus took the lead and won comfortably. The Wanganui Steeplechase was a great race. Lovell led the field at a cracking pace for two and a-half miles, and was then collared by El Dorado and Winchester. The latter fell, leaving El Dorado with a good lead from Corazon. Russell's horse gradually made up the leeway, and caught the leader at the last jump. A fine duel in the straight saw Corazon win by half a length, Mount Cook two lengths away. Then came Lovell, Eurus and Maharil. The time was a record for the race. Gold Circle, who was palpably unfit, was a warm order for the Electric Handicap, but ran last all the way. Lady Kilclieran quickly took the lead, winning easily. Mallet and Napper were best backed in the Hack Hurdles. Burton made the early running, but Zanle led into the straight. Patrobus caught the leader at the distance, and just got home by a short half-length from the fast-finishing Napper. Zante was close up third, with Mallet next. The stewards disqualified •lulinn for twelve months for pulling Napper. The defection of Wimmcra and Ribtun Pippin left eleven in the Century I'urdles. Marion had most of the !• \ekers, Torbelle and Waiputere next. Waiputere led practically all the way. Appin closed on the leader at the home bend, and then fell back, came again, and won a fine race on the post by, a neck. Auratus close up third, Hydrant fourth, with Torbelle last. Bliss and Cheddar divided favoritism for the Connolly Handicap. Bliss led to the turn, where Gunboat and Merrivonian oame fast, the latter winning easily by several lengths, and paying a large dividend. Silver Bu'.'.ct was the public fancy for

the Purua Handicap, and won very easily after Melologue had made the early running. TAKAPUNA MEETING. Auckland, Last Night. The Takiipiiiia races were continued to-day.
