The judging of the district courts at the winter show places Wluingarei first with 329 points; 'famanga, 287, 2; Franklin, 277V 2 , 3; Kaipara. 246, 4. The winning district will hold the Farmers' Freezing Company's shield in addition to a cash prize. HAWKE'S BAY RIVER BOARD. Napier, Wednesday. The first meeting of the Central Rivers' Board elected under the Bill passed last session to control the whole of the rivers of this district was hold to-day. The Hon. J. D. Ormond was appointed chairman. The Board selected two engineers, •Messrs C. D. Kennedy (Napier) and George Elliott (Taieri), to report on the river question and the appointment of a third was left to the Government. A PROHIBITION ORDER REFUSED. Welling!on. Wednesday.
An unusual ease was brought beifore the Magistrate litis morning, when an employer sought to obtain a prohibition order against an employee, on the ground that the latter met with an accident some time ago and that his drinking habits were retardinc his recovery. The Magistrate considered the evidence did not show that deceased drank to excess. and dismissed Hie application. CORONATION" •MEMORTAL. Christ church, Wednesday.
