In connection with the Empire Day celebrations, Admiral Kingliall, in the course of a speech, spoke of the need of one Imperial navy, of which Australia's should W an Imperial division, lie favored a local navy rather than a contribution to the British Navy. Professor David said self-sacrifice had made the British Empire what it is. The Roman Catholic parochial .schools celebrated the day as "Australia Day." The Union Jack was absent from the display of bunting at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral, Mr. Bruce Smith, a member of the Federal Parliament, declared that the Cardinal's attitude was like that of a person past childhood's troubles, being asked to forget his father and mother.
