"WHY .MEN I.OYE WOMEN." "Why Men iv()vo Women" will lie the pieee-de-resistance at the Theatre Royal to-night, when Mr. Allan Hamilton's Dramatic Company will stage for the tirot time in New Plymouth Walter Howard's popular melodrama. The company have recently had a remarkably successful season in Melbourne, where Miss Frances Ross is so well knqjvn and her dramatic abilities thoroughly appreciated. After persuasion she accepted a starring engagement to travel, and her success has been no less pronounced in the principal cities of the Dominion than it was in the Commonwealth. Mr. Conway Wingifield, too, is winning distinction as the hero, his manly stage-bearing and forceful style bringing him into favor. Mr. Fred Canibourne is probably one of the best low comedians in Australia today, and it is said that he lias done nothing better than the eccentric proprietor of an opera company in "Why Alen Love \A omen." Mr. Hiliard Vox is the villain, and Miss Muriel Dale the adventuress. It would not be easy to assemble a stronger melodrama combination. Added to this is the interest, created in the tirst act by the appearance of two handsome young ladies in the harem skirt. The box plan is at. Collier's, and there is 110 extra fee for booking. "EAST LYNNE." "East Lynne," Unit, grand old play, is set down for production to-morrow (Thursday) the last, night of the season, when Mi-s Frances lioss will appear as "l.aily 'lsabel Vane.'' Miss lioss is said to lie without compeer in this particular part, anil as the management are making a special feature of this production, no doubt Mrs. Henry Wood will receive justice at last. The full company will be utilised in the production, and special j-cenery setting, properties, etc., have been made for "East Lvnne."
