The failure of the winding gear of the Gwalia mine at Leonora caused a skip containing ten men to fall to the bottom, a distance of 2000 feet. The shaft cable parted and fell on top of Frank Rooney, assistant surveyor, who was killed. Adams, a surveyor, is also unexpected to recover. Six miners were seriously injured.
