"WHY MEN LOVE WOMEN." Miss Frances Ross, of whom New Zealanders hold many lovable recollections, is to be with us once again after nine years. Miss Ross was quite a girl when she left us last with the original Bland Holt Company, and she returns an experienced artiste who has won histrionic fame. Her grace ,culture and histrionic genius have attained for her a position second to none on the Australasian stage. Miss Ross comes this time at the head of Mr. Allan Hamilton's Dramatic Company, which is to produce at the Theatre Royal on Wednesday, May 24, under the auspices of Messrs Clark and Meyttell, Walter Howard's successful melodrama, 'Why Men Love Women." This play caused quite a sensation when recently produced in Melbourne, partly, probably, on account of two of its leading lady members being called upon to wear the real thing in harem skirts in the first act. Mr. Hamilton was the first to introduce the harem costume, to the stage in Australia, not really to-gain notoriety, but simply to carry out the author's instructions and the costume,,of the characters, represented in the play. Mr. Conway Wingfleld is the leading juvenile of the company. He will be remembered as last round here with "The Hypocrites.' He and Miss Ross will be supported by numerous people of note in the dramatic world and the advent of the production is arousing much interest. On Thursday, the last night of the \ season, a specially constructed version of j "East Lynne" will be submitted, when Miss Ross will appear in her famous dual • role as Lady Isabel and Madame Vine. 1 The, box plan is at Collier's, where intending patrona. are advised to book.
