MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at Inglewood on Saturdny, where then! were presentMessrs H. Trimble, A. Corkill, A. E. Lawrence, R. ,J. Williams, A. Chard, J. Williams, Anderson, Collingwood and J. Bridgeman. Mr. Ogier, returning officer, announced the result of the recant election, whereby Messrs Corkill, Colingwood, Chard and Bridgeman were returned, and then called for nominations for chairman. Mr. H. Trimble was the only one nominated and was unanimously re-elected. Mr. Trimble thanked members for their continued confidence. He congratulated the two old members on their return, and also the two new members, both of whom had had previous experience on the Board. He expressed the hope that they would all work harmoniously together. ENGINEERS REPORT. The engineer, Mr. S. Orbell, reported that the contractor for the Bristol road bridge was making good progress, and expected to finish within six weeks. The Bristol road formation would be completed within n week. FOREMEN'S REPORTS.

Foreman Bennett reported that he had been engaged on work on the Ratapiko, Mana, Salisbury and Kaimata South roads. Further repairs,were required to the Mana and Ratapiko roads. Foreman Ludemann reported that gome blinding was required on the Bristol West road, and 30yds of metal were required on the Bristol East road. A culvert on the York road required renewing with 2ft pipes. The loose stones and water-tables on this road and the Lincoln road required attention. J. Rowen had not started his Bristol West road contract yet 'Foreman Jones reported that the Rugby road required patching. Work was also needed on the Durham road. During the month he had taken possession of four horses found wandering on the Durham road.

Foreman Hoskin reported that the Waiongoniti bridge on the Hursthouse road was not safe for heavy traffic, it requiring new stringers and decking. He had spoken to Messrs Swan and Magee, who had a contract for carting boulders for the county, re the erection of the Wniongona bridge at Waiongona. Rome pine trees that overhung the road required trimming and pigs were running about rooting up the road. Work was required on the Egmont South. Upland North and South. Lepperton South, Dudley West and King roads.

Members considered that permission should not he granted contractors to use bullock teams. The Board bad for years past been endeavorins to check heavy traffic during the winter months and even prohibited settlers from cartin? a load of firewood with bullocks. It was resolved to inform the contractors that' they would not be allowed to use bullocks" on the Ifurstlioiise road or to exceed the weight of loads allowed by the by-laws. ' • GENERAL.. The Rntapiko School lommitte -wrote asking the Board to metal the. approach to the school. It was considered that any metal available was needed on the road, and the committee will be informed that the Road Board does not supply metal for entrances to schools.

1 Mr. V. Dravjlzki. of 'Kaimala. asked the Board to. deduct royalty at the rate of fid per yard from the last payment to the'contractor for metiil taken off jiis property.

Mr. H. W. James, manager of the Moa Dairy Co., asked that a crossing should |>e made at the entrance, to the Bristol road creamerv. The request was granted on condition that the company paid for- flip pipes and the labor, the work to be. done under the supervision of the Board's foreman. , .

, The chairman's action in arranging for shingle on the Dudley' West road was confirmed. : l>fr. Lawrence was authorised to inspect the work done on the Salisbury i'oad'aml instruct the foreman to complete it if not satisfactory. • The monthly balance-sheet showed tha-t receints during the month had been lUO 7s 3d (rates £37 3s 3d) and that the, expenditure had amounted to £3l-1 js fid.
