WORKERS' DWELLINGS
GOOD NEWS FOR WORKERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Minister of Labor is able to at once make a start upon his scheme for providing workers' dwellings, suitable land being available at Auckland and Palmerston North. Mr. Millar stated to a New Zealand Times reporter to-day that 34 acres of Government land at Terrace End railway station, Palmerston North, lias been taken for subdivision into quarter-acre sections, under the scheme by which tenants will be able to select their own design from a dozen different ones prepared by the Labor Department's architect Land is also to 'be utilised at Ellerslie at Otahuhu, in the near vicinity of Auckland, and negotiations for sites at Wellington, New Plymouth, Timaru, Invereargill, Dunedin and Foxton are going on. Asked as to tlic prospects nf securing cheap and suitable land in Wellington, the Minister said lie had refused two offers because the price asked was out of all reason, but there were at least three other places available, and he believed it would be possible to get. what is wanted. "We are now notifying all tenants of existing workers' dwellings," snid Mr. Millar, "that they mnv purchase their houses on the same conditions as those set out in the scheme just brought into operation."
