HUNTING

NORTII TARAXAKI CLUB. On Thursday very unfavorable weather prevailed, but this did not appear to interfere with the meet of the North Taranaki Hunt Club at New Plymouth, as there was a good attendance of members, many of whom come some distance. The members of the hunt were entertained at luncheon at the ICia Ora ten rooms by Messrs Chaney and Stamlish, to whom Mr. Halcombe, on behalf of the club, returned thanks. After the huntsmen lmd been photographed, the ■pack was taken in the direction of Westown. where tho hunt took place. Though the ground was very slippery, the horses jumped exceedingly well, and tlie pack, numbering about thirty, worked splendidly. There were a few spills, hilt none serious. The country in the vicinity of the golf links was visited but only a couple of hares were put up, and no kills resulted. Shortly after four o'clock the huntsmen adjourned to Mrs. Walter Bayly's for afternoon tea. Mr. Halcombe, on behalf of the club, expressed hearty thanks for the hospitality of Mrs. Bayly and Miss Standisli. The following were among those present:—Messrs Halcombe (master) on Flying Scotchman, Chancy (deputy-master) 011 Star Lass, H. Matthews on Rua, A. Cliff (huntsman) on Kiri and Kura, Lash (acting-whip) on Jack. A. Humphries on Rawa, \V. Bonlton on Pompcy, W. T. 'Hooklmm on Otaoroa, Hooker on Tommy, A. 11. Standish on Bluey, T. Valentine on St. Antoine, Carthcw on Coolgardie, X. Pepperill on Nakau, K. Webster on Nevertire, W. Lonergan on Singlet, J. Mabin on Blenda, E. C.eorge on Gante, T. D. Walsh on Sergeant-Major, and the only lady rider, Mi is Sylvia Bayly, on Jumper. Tn the evening Mr. and Mrs. Kmenv, of the White Ilart Hotel, entertained about twenty of the members of the Hunt Club at dinner. The next meet will be at Okato, but it lias not been decided what properties will be hunted over.
