EGMONT COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETIXC. The ordinary meeting of the F.nmont County Council was held on Friday. There were present I'rs. Maxwell (in the chair), Hurst, Farquhir. Younsr. Harvey, Campbell. Mncl'Jcynold:- and Willeox. Foreman T. Humphries (Raholn southern) reported, that during the month he had been engaged repairing the Kit ham road. About fift or "ft yards of boulder stone on the roadside requires breaking, and he would re'conlmend that it be broken by band as it would not pay to shift the crusher. The Main South road had also 'been repaired between' Oaonui and Te Xamu river. The breast work of the small bridge near Opua road, also Koetoetoe bridge required renewing 1 . The liahotu councillors will inspect the bridges and the stall' will break thi stone.
Foreman F. Xcwpnri (Ballot u Northern) reported that he had been generally repairing the .Main South road between, (.laonui and Warea, and ■lillins in t.be wheel ruts nf the metal that has .been newly laid down. All timber ordered froin Messrs. Ducker Bros., of Warea, for repairing bridges north of Pungarehu. had been received. Mr. A* 0. Vincent hail completed all contracts in this riding, and hj" favored .settlement on contracts for .'(-.'HO vards of bonldcf stone, crushed and delivored, and also for 120(1 yards of l.!im]in<r delivered. ' Messrs. Ilislmp (Opuuakcl and Momona (Rahotn) were granted billiard room licenses. They arc also to be notified that complaint has been made re irregularities in closine. Mr. Robinson (Stratford) is to be informed that the council recognised him as consulting engineer to theEgmont County Council. The Taranaki, CountvCouncil's resolution, urging on the Minister of Agriculture the nece-ity of continuing an assistant noxious weeds inspector for the district of Taranaki. was endorsed.
The Clerk was empowered to arran<r the matter of royalty as between the Parihaka Road Board and council. Owing to a ditl'erence in the amount of grant available for expenditure and the price accepted for (he contract on Wiremil road. N'g.iriki to Xewall road, the Clerk was authorised by Mr. Mnrrnv. district roads engineer, to eliminate certain work.
An unexpended balance of L'S Us from the previous (iovernnient grant was authorised to be spent, where the supervisor of the Parihaka lioad Hoard thinks most suitable.
It was resolved to inform the Xormanhv Town Hoard that- the Council did not think it. ncccs-ary fo forward a petition re the Opnnake Railway.
The Opnnake Saivmilling Company is to .lie asked to remove an old tramline "n the Te Kori road complained of by Mr. Davev.
Mr. Muir's nll'er of Lis for reserve on the Stent road was refused, and the foreman was instructed to remove, the fence on the reserve if Mr. Muir does not accept the council's terms. The Clerk stated that he had arranged with A. (.'. Vincent for the payment" of C."> on account of the time the'council's crusher was kept, idle.—Action confirmed.
The Council decided to bike necessary steps to raise a joint loan of .C 338 for defraying a portion of the cost of forming, metalling and improving part of the Oeo road, in accordance with a petition received from -elders in the Waimate West County Council. Mr. Dcnham was appointed ranger over the district extending from Te Namii to Funilio.- Abridged from the Opnnake Times.
