THE TERRITORIALS.
ENROLMENT RETURNS.. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The following information regarding the registration of territorials and senior cadets under the new defence scheme is supplied by the Department. The totals registered to May 6 were: Territorials 9352, senior cadets 15,73(5; registered during the week ending May 13: At Wellington, 494, 859; at Auckland, 062, 1259; at Canterbury, 181(1, 3540; at Otago. 307. 045; totals registered to Mav 13. 12,091 territorials and 22,039 senior cadets. To the above must be added those who were liable to register, but who are at present serving in territorials or senior cadets, and who are being registered by the unit. Lists of these are estimated to account for 12,000 territorials and 5500 senior cadets, or a total of 17,500. Thus to the week ended Mav 13 there were 34,730 registered, to which may be added the 17,500, making 52,230 accounted for. As about 71,000 are liable. 18770 must register before June 2 nest or become liable to penalties under the Act.
