As to Nelson's limitations as a port, Mr. Franklyn, in proposing the re-elec-tion of the retiring chairman of the Harbor Board (Mr. John Graham, M.P.), said they had set ont with the object of bringing vessels of 5000 or 6000 tons to the port, but had got beyond that, and it was only the other dav that a Bteamer of 10.000 tons had entered the port without difficulty. If it was a populous district he would say go on, but a 10,000 ton steamer was more than was required for the trade of the port.
