THE IONIC'S PASSENGERS.

SURGICAL OPERATION AT SEA. By Telegraph.—Presg Association. Wellington, Last Night. The lonic, which arrived from London this evening, brought 324 passengers. Assisted passengers number 89. Of these three arc farmers. The majority are women, including some coming oat with their children to join their husbands. There are about 40 domestici, 28 of whom were gent out by the British Women's Immigration Society. Two infants died on the voyage from natural causeß. The ship was stopped during the voyage while Dr. G. Gordon Stuart, the ship's surgeon, performed an operation on a passenger for appendicitis. The operation was completely successful.
