THE HOLIDAY QUESTION.
NEW PLYMOUTH'S DECISION. A meeting of business people, called by the Tradesmen's Association, waa held last evening to consider the question of holidays. Mr. C. E. Baker (chairman of the Association) presided over an attendance of about thirty. The following resolutions were carried:—o) : That this meeting pledges itself to use all its influence to discourage as far as possible the proclamation of any day us a public holiday other than Thursday; (•2) That in all cases where a holiday falls on any day other than Thursday, the Thursday half-holiday in that week be not observed; (3) That a committee be set up to arrange special holidays other than statutory holidays: the committee to be composed of a delegate from each of the organisations in the town with the chairman of the Employers' Association.
