TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN. HIDE AND TALLOW SALES. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday last I held my usual fourweekly sale of above produce, when I offered to a good attendance of buyers a catalogue of 22 bales and 05 sacks wool, 3078 sheepskins, 28 casks, 1 keg and 88 tins tallow, 1182 hides, 278 calf and 2 goatskins. Competition was keen for • wool and' sheepskins, prices realised being equal to those ruling at my last sale. Hides were easier. Ox hides, for quality offered equal to late rate, heavy and medium weight cow hides declined %d to y 2 d per lb, while damaged and inferior hides were in most cases >/ 2 d tq %d lower. Tallow declined 5s per ton. I quote:— Wool—Fine crossbred B'/ 2 d, medium crossbreds TVJdto 7%d, coarse and clotted •'Ad to 7d, seedy flflece 5y 2 d to 6d, lambs 7d to 7y 2 d, pieces 4%d to 4%d, second pieces 3d to 3%d, locks l%d to 3d, skin pieces 3y 2 d, to 4d. .. Wc held our monthly sale of hides, skins, wool, tallow, etc.. last week and submitted ,an average catalogue to good competition. In sympathy with outside markets, hides receded about a halfpenny for most sorts, this being particularly noticeable in heavy and medium cow. Very light cow and heavy ox showing a bit of substance ruled from y 4 d drop to par. Tallow declined slightly. Skins and wool sold at a slight advance on last month's rates. Sundries sold at market value.
