NAPIER'S HARBOR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. At a meeting of the Napier Harbot Board to-day, it was decided to obtain the advice of Mr. W, Ferguson, C.E., Wellington, as to the best course to take in connection with the proposed inner harbor and the existing breakwater harbor, before obtaining further reports from experts. It is expected that Mr. Ferguson will be here abo\it June Ist.

A HANDSOME GIFT. Timaru, Last Night. At a meeting of the coronation celebrations committee at Temuka, the Mayor (Mr. T. Buxton, M.P.) undertook to give £124 to provide a permanent memorial in the shape of an equipped swimming bath in the park, such expenditure to receive the Government subsidy. INFECTIOUS DISEASES AT TIMARU. Timaru, Last Night. At the hospital board meeting to-day an unusual number of cases of infectious diseases was reported, there being ten scarlet fever, six diptheria, and live enteric. Two of the enteric cases proved fatal at Fairlie. The board decided to take steps to obtain a good inspection of the district in view of the fact that plagued rats had been found at Auckland, which may be brought to the district by vessels, and generally to carry out the regulations when received.

INVESTIGATING AND PREVENTING DISEASE. Wellington, Last Night. Dr. Hardwick Smith, medical superintendent, submitted a report to the Wellington Hospitnl Hoard recommending that a board be set np to control investigation and prevention of disease in accordance with the clause in the new Hospitals Act, which stipulates that such boards shall take over such work. The board resolved to appoint two inspectors at a salary of £lB5, and travelling expenses. The Public Health Department is to be asked to take over the supervision of these officers for the time being.
