NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. A FAR-REACHING PROGRAMME. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 10, 8.55 p.m. Sydney, May Hi. At the opening of the State Parliament, the Lieutenant-Governor declared that the Government hoped by re-model-ling the sinking funds to compass the gradual extinction of the public debt. He forecasted an increase in taxation, ineluding the reduction of the income tax exemption. Ministers were in communication with New Zealand regarding superannuation. Upon receipt of the triennial report he hoped to be prepared to deal with the problem. A Bill would be introduced regulating the rates of gas companies in order to protect consumers.
