TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

j MONTHLY MEETING. l The monthly meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs. W. Armstrong (Commissioner of Crown Lands) in the chair, Heslop, Rattenbury, and Kennedy. An apology was received for the absence of Mr. J. McCluggage. The members welcomed Mr. Armstrong as Commissioner, and assured him of their hearty co-operation in matters concerning the settlement of land. Mr. Armstrong having acknowledged the good wishes extended to him, the business was proceeded with. TRANSFERS. Transfers were dealt with as under:— W. B. Davies to T. and W. Hounslow, sections 1, 2, and 5, block 5, Egmont.— Approved. L. L. Newlove to W. and J. Rotherv, section IS, block 11, Cape.—Recommended. G. Thomas to A. G. Fischer and J. Wildon, section 7, block 12, Upper Waitara.—Mr, R. Spence waited on the Board with the parties. —Recommended for approval. R. and W. C. H. Dassler to R. Dossier, sections 3 and 6, block 16, Opaku.—Approved.

C. C. M. and P. R. Farnham to W. X. Watson, sections 6, 7, and 21, block 2, Ngatimaru.—Ranger to report. John Harris to T. Rose, section t>, block 1, Aria.—Approved,

Craven and Mcßae to Mcßae and H. W. Howie, section 2, block 1, Ohura.— Deferred for three months to enable improvements to be brought up to requirements and papers to be in order.

C. E. Walker to J. B. C. and.R, G. Fawkner, sections 170 and 171, block 13, Pouatu.—Approved.

Snow and Olsen to A. W. Olsen and J. Symonds, section 5, block 7, Aria.— Approved subject to conditions having been complied with.

Two months' extension of time to register transfer was granted in the cases of E. A. Hill to E. A. and W. 11. Hill, section 1, block 3, Piopiotea west; M. MeMahon to C. M, Hawken, section 10, block 14, Waro, and sub-lease; W. 8., D. M., J. M.. and G. Smith to W. Godkin, section IG, block 4, Omona; W. MeLeod to H. R. Wilson, section 1, block 7, Ohura. SUB-LEASES. Christian and Skitrop to R. J. Mitchell, section 22, block 15, Ngatimaru.— Approved. Joseph Stock! ey to A. E. Stockley, sections 14 and 43, block 6, Ngatimaru.— Approved. U. M. Smith to C. F. Osborne, section 11, block 15, Ngatimaru.—Approved. LEASES TO ISSUE. The following improved farm 'settlors applied for their leases to issue:—U r . Bennett, section 2, block 12, Aria; j. Spriggs, section 12, block 2, Aria. — Leases to issiie accordingly. MISCELLANEOUS.

Taitoko lliriako applied to purchaso about an acre of section 17, block 4, Totoro, adjoining his farm on Mapiu stream.—lleport of the ranger to be obtained, with valuation of- the land. H. and G. Black, J. Phillips, and G. and W. Woods applied for part of the Crown lands in black 10, Aria, adjoining their holdings. The report of the rangei was read, and it was resolved that consideration be deferred for valuation of land. '

F. W. Cribb applied for lease of section 6, block 11, Aria. An application was also received from Coventry.— The report of the ranger will be obtained, with a view to opening the land for settlement.

J. Black, former tenant of S.G.R. 12, Opaku, offered to remain in temporary possession of section for six months at same rental as previously paid.—ResolVed that he be allowed to remain ia occupation at the old rental, subject to termination by one month's notice.

J. W. K. Jones, former tenant of S.G.R. 2, Opaku, offered to remain in occupation of seetjon until July.—The Board agreed that he ehoulU remain in occupation at same rental as before, tenancy terminable by one , month's notice.

W. T. Jennings applied to surrender section 4, block 3, Upper Waitara, as there was no homestead site on the section.—Resolved, that the deposit ol the selector be forfeited and his right to obtain license null and void, and that' the land be re-offered for selection. , E. Tolme, ranger, reported on the application of 0. Old for lease of section 20, block 14, Ohura.—The application was declined, and the applicant will be informed that there ia a chain road reserve on each aide of the Ohura river.

The ranger also reported on the residence of G. Simpson on section 8, block 5, Ohura—Explanation accepted a3 satisfactory. H. T. Twiss, ranger, reported on the application of C. E. Raby for part section 5, block 13, Waro— Resolved that the portion referred to be aet apart as a P.E. reserve, with a view of adding it to lease of section 4 as a homestead site in such manner as the Commissioner may think fit; rent to be filed at 2s per acre per annum, and applicant to provide plan of survey at Ilia own cost. i The same ranger suggested that the! valuation of closed part of Holdsworthy road be increased to £B6 per aere, and that of part of Mangorei road be fixed at £2B per acre.—lt was decided that the closed portions be offered to the adjoining owners.

Regarding the application of the Stratford County Council to have the creek through section 30, block 9, Ngatimaru, cleaned, the Board was not prepared to recommend any expenditure in this direction, but will offer the land to public competition for cash at an upset of £4 10s an acre, with estimated value ot timber added thereto.

G. Syine having given notico of his intention not to renew his tenancy of section 27, block 16, ITuiroa, it was decided to recommend to the Minister til Lands to dispose of the land to the holder of section 2fi adjoining, in terms of the original intention when the Clandon settlement was opened for selection, under section 51 (2) of the Lands for Settlement Act.

Tlie Board declined to re-open the matter nf the forfeiture of A. .7. Whittaker's interest in section 1, block 2, Piopiotea west.

The Ohura County Council applied for the thirds from sections 1 and 4, block 5. 01)ura, already scheduled for improving Mangaparere road, to be diverted towards cost of building bridge to give access to those sections.—Application granted, (Left sitting.)
