PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the above board was held on Thursday last. There were present: Messrs. J. Young (chairman), T. Harvey, J. Ducker, P. Willcox, and A. Potter. The foreman reported that 300 yards of boulders on the Kahui road had been crushed and spread on the road at a cost of 2s lOd per yard. On the Lower Kahui road Messrs. Morrow, Chapman, and Willcox assisted with teams free of cost. Five and a half chains of forming and metalling on the Pungarehu road and the work authorised on the Opunake road were completed. Forming, draining, and clearing 18 chains of the Ihaia road was progressing satisfactorily, as was the forming and metalling on the Bayly road. The settlers on the Pua road wanted work done to the value of £lO. Fifty yards of boulder stone were carted out on the Arawhata road. Repairs were also required on the Upper and Lower Waikaka roads.

Pungarehu road.—ln reference to thu Pungarehu road difficulty, it having been reported that the road was not on its surveyed lines, Mr. Willcox said that those settlers who had put up a live sod wall would not have done so unless they had found their pegs. He considered the Board should be satisfied by the complaints that the road is on their land. There may have been some mistake in the recent surveying, but it was necessary for the Board's own guidance that these people should have their lands surveyed. Mr. Harvey, on being appealed to, said that some 25 years ago he put in a stone culvert on that road which was still in a good state of repair, and had not had anything done to it. The lands on both sides of the road were fenced in at that period. Waikaka Road.—lt was resolved to put in a culvert on this road and also to pay Mr. Leahy 3s per chain for 36 chains of clearing. The foreman is to report at next meeting as to the cost of forming the road between .the railway reserve and the Eltham road, as petitioned for by the settlers. An application by six surfacemen for an increase of wages from 8s to 9s was refused. It was ; also resolved that during the winter mpnths the staff be re(l«ee.d and apportioned a> .-.follows: 'opunaiceeTid.,6nejnan; -Hahotu two, and. Warea one. •

It was resolved that in future the Board's work will be open to both Bottlers and contractors. The work of forming 30 chains on the Stent road was, held over till a future date.

It was resolved that the staff be instructed to take active and legal steps in accordance with the by-laws to put a stop to heavy ( traffic—Abridged from the Opunake Times,'
