FIRES.
FIRE AT WANGANUI. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. Just before midnight, a fire broke out in Chavnnnes' motor garage and spread lo a private residence. Some cars were damaged, but the majority were removed. The extent of the damage was not ascertainable when the telegraph office closed. BOARDING-HOUSE GUTTED. Wellington, Monday. An eleven-roomed bouse on Thorndon Quay was gutted by fire early this morning. When the brigade arrived the whole place was in flames and a strong southerly wind prevented them saving the place. The boarding-house was occupied by Bridget Coyle. who was absent nt the time. A servant girl was awakened by the smoke, and five boarders and another servant escaped but saved nothing. The house was insured for CfiOO in the Atlas office and £2OO in the Royal Ex- | change, and the contents for £250. Two adjoining houses were also damaged.
