HIMITANGI FOR CHATHAM ISLANDS TRADE.

Negotiations have been completed between the Chatham Islands Fishing Co. and Messrs Levin and Co. in regard to the purchase of the well-known coastal steamer Himitangi by the former firm. For some time past the Chatham Islands Fishing Co. have been employing the New Zealand Trawling and Fish Supply Co.'s trawler, Nora Niven, for the carriage of fish from Owenga, Chatham Islands, to ■Wellington, and now the Himitangi is to be employed in the trade. It is the intention of her new owners to put refrigerating machinery into the vessel, and insulate one of the holds. In addition, it is proposed to carry passengers

and maintain a regular service between the Islands and Wellington. The Himitangi, which was built at Paisley, Scotland, in 1899, for Messrs Levin and Co., of Wellington, has been a frequent visitor to New Plymouth with coal from tac West Coast.
