HAWKE'S BAY RACES. Hastings, Last Night. Beautiful weather prevailed for the first day of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's autumn meeting. The attendance was large, and the course in good order despite the recent rains. The totalisa-j tor handled £10,717, against £6631 10s' on the corresponding day of last year,' when bookmakers were licensed, an in-' crease, of £4085 10s. From a good start Bliss at once took up the role of pacemaker, and passing the stand the order was Bliss, Separator, Cheddar, with Lady Menschikoff last. Half way down the straight Lady Menschikoff set out to try and catch Fort William, bin he had plenty in reserve, and ran home ;>. comfortable winner by three lengths, the same distance separating second and third. Separator was fourth, and Te Puia fifth. Time, 2min 40sec. Karanm Handicap Hurdles, 1% miles. —Whakitweira 1, Hoanga 2, Corazon 3. All started. Reumac and Longner fell.! Whakaweira swerved at a hurdle, but the rider (Flynn) made a great recovery. A good finish, won by a head;! a poor third. Time, 3min 26sec.
