When the veteran division of Connie Melt's /Philadelphia team went to Hot Swings, Va., last spring, for their early spring training, they were all urged to take up golf. And take it up they did—players, managers, and scribes. And they piayeil it vigorously as long as they renra'iiled at; that resort. Charles Bender, the Indian pitcher, was a ' shark at the game. Eddie Collins caught on fast, and so did the rest. ' Then the training season ended, and everybody forgot that the ''Athletics had framed on golf," until the great team, led by the resourceful Cornelius McGilli cu'ddy" (a good golfer himself, by the way), won the world's baseball championship. The Masterton Golf Club has A' bc-t'ter record still.
