WORKERS' HOMES.
AN AUSTRALIAN SCHEME. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 12, 10.55 p.m. Sydney, May 12. Mr. A. M. Carmichael, a Minister of the New South Wales Cabinet, told a deputation seeking information about the Government's proposal in regard to providing cheaper homes for workers, that it was intended to introduce a Bill next session to enable the Government to purchase lands and erect dwellings, and sell to anyone who wished to buy. He was satisfied they could supply purchasers with a reasonably good house for the payment of about ten shillings weekly. This must interfere with private landlords, but it could not be helped.
