r " SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraphi—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night.
The Meteorological Office has issued the following summary and forecast:— Heavy rain has fallen in some parts northward of the East Cape and Eawhia, and rain has commenced in other districts of the North Island, cloudy and hazy weather has spread elsewhere. High easterly winds have prevailed northward of the East Cape and Kawhia, aiii} variable winds generally. ; Present indications are for the passage of a storm area over the North Island, with heavy rain on, the East Coast, rivers flooded, and heavy seas. High south-easterly winds are probable in the north, and strong southerly winds j are expected elsewhere shortly. Bain] and unsettled weather are probable generally, the barpmeter falling again shortly in the nor.th, hut rising in the south to-morrow.
