TEACHERS' INSTITUTE.

A general meeting of the Taranaki branch of the Teachers' Institute was held on .Saturday at Stratford. Mr. 11. A. Stratford (president) occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members.

Correspondence was read from the Education Board, the -Southland District Institute, Mr. V. Long, and the general secretary. Eleven new members were elected, bringing the total number to 1-13. It was decided to send letters of thanks to the editors of the Taranaki Herald and Daily News for recent articles on educational matters.

Tlie question of Dominion promotion was discussed, and on the motion of Mr. Mail, seconded by Mr. Sims, it was decided thai in the case of any matter that is deemed urgent and that closely concerns the interests of the teachers in connection with Dominion promotion, the secretary be empowered to have the same printed and circulated among members of this institute as occasion may arise.

It was decided to ask the education board if any steps had been taken to provide teachers' residences with washhouses and bathrooms.

It was resolved to again approach the education board in the matter of manual and technical grants, the following motion .being passed: That tho cduca" tion board be asked to supply to each school statements showing the credit balance in connection with the manual and technical classes at the school. Several schools at present are in urgent need of money, in order to commence their > dairy and agriculture course, and arrange their schemes of work in these and other courses.

The secretary was instructed to write to all other district institute? inquiring how the grant for technical work was distributed.
