ACCIDENTAL POISONING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. At the resumed inquest on the body of Mrs. Maginnity, who died on Sunday as the result of a dose of nicotine taken in mistake, medical evidence was given that "nicotine" was the concentrated essence of tobacco, the active principle in which was nicotine. This was one of the most powerful and rapidly acting poisens known, equal to prussic acid and strychnine in its rapidity of action and deadliness. A verdict was returned that deceased died from nicotine poison accidentally taken.

A CASE OF SUICIDE. Auckland, Tuesday. .Tames O'Brien, a middle-aged man, was admitted to the hospital and died this morning. Evidence at the inquest showed that deceased was the proprietor of a hotel at Nukualofa. He been in the theatrical profession, and was known as Charles Bryant. He had apparently taken chlorodyne in a cup of tea while suffering from chronic alcoholism. The jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane.

KILLED BY FALL OF EARTH. Woodville, Last -\ignt. A young man named Timothy Joseph Sullivan, aged 22, was accidentally killed by a fall of earth at Kumeroa this morning. He was working on a Woodville county road contract on the Upper Otawlmo road, where there is a good deal of excavating work to do. Shortly after starting work there was a big fall of earth, which smothered him up to the neck. His mates, who were working close by, came to his assistance as soon as possible, but when reelased he was quite dead. All that is known about him is that he formerly belonged to Seadowns, near Temuka. The body was brought in to Woodville. An inquest will be held to-morrow morning. A FARMER KILLED. Duncdin, Last Night. A farmer named Wm. Kirk, residing at East Taieri, met with a fatal accident this morning. He was riding a young horse in a paddock, and the animal bolted, deceased being thrown against a dray. Death was almost instantaneous. Kirk, who was 54 years of age, leaves a widow and thirteen children.
