TARANAKI PETROL [JEM COMPANY. No. 5 bore of the Taranaki Petroleum Co. is down to a depth of KiSOft., and drilling is proceeding in a formation of sand, gravel, shells, and fossils, some excellent specimens having been obtained yesterday.

At No. 2 oil is flowing as usual. At No. 3 drilling is progressing satisfactorily in good country, and the flow of oil between the casings is increasing, the average now being about 10 barrels per day.

Acting on the suggestion of Mr. 11. Okey, M.P., the Hon," J. Carroll, actingPremier, has cabled .to Sir Joseph Ward the information that the Taranaki Petroleum Co. has won over 250,000 gallons of oil from its bores at Jfoturoa, and is therefore entitled to the Government bonus of £2500.
