DAMAGE TO S.S. KAIPARA.
WILL THE CLAIM BE PAID? The claim for compensation with which the Auckland Harbor Board was threatened by the New Zealand Shipping Company in connection with the accident to the steamer Kiapara was referred to by Mr. W. J. Napier in addressing a meeting of electors at Auckland (aays the Herald). He explained that a writ had been issued, but it was still "between heaven and earth." The board had an overwhelming defence, and while he could not disclose its character, as the matter was still sub judice, he could say that the board was prepared to meet any action that might be instituted against it. "I am informed, however," said Mr. Napier, "that within the next week or two the case will be discontinued."
