At Ilawera on Saturday, Waimate da* feated Hawera in a friendly match bj) 11 points to 6. For the winners Ryan and Young scored tries, one of whicll was converted by McKay, who also kicked a goal from a free kick. For the losers, tries were obtained by L. Hunt and Reid.
WANGANUI MATCHES. ; Fine, clear, cold weather was ex« perienced for the opening of the Wan« ganui Rugby season. Pirates ran all over Kaierau to the tune of 26 to nUL The game was remarkable only for its utter tameness. Eastern and Old Boys put up a better battle. The former led by 6 to nil at half-time, but the 014 Boys, whose condition was superior, came with a late run and snatched ft victory by 8 to 6. Fair form was shown for the opening games, but Kaierav played several men short and even Taka> rangi's strenuous play failed to stavQ off defeat.—Own correspondent.
