Detective-Sergeant Boddam, who has been away for a few days on leave, has returned £o New Plymouth. Mr. J. H. Connett was yesterday reelected chairman of the New Plymouth Harbor Board for the tenth year. Mr. Edward Tregoar, late Secretary for Labor, left on a eix weeks' mLsi'i to Australia by the Moana on Friday. Mr. L. E. Hoffmann, accompanied by Mrs. Hoffmann, returned from Auckland on Sunday evening, having driven through from Te Kuiti, A Sydney cablegram reports the sudden death of Mr. Thou. E. Spencer, author and industrial arbitrator. He wrote "How MacDougall topped the score." At last night's meeting the Borough Council resolved to place on reeord its appreciation of the services of Crs. Wilson, West, Watkins and/Gilbert during their term of office. Mr. and Mrs. D. Berry, Mr. W. P. McAllum, Mr. J. H. Parker, and Mrs. D. S. Wylie and her sister, Miss Ellis, were amongst the passengers to Auckland last night per s.s, Rarawa. A cablegram has been received notifying that the degree of Doctor ot Divinity (D.D.) jure dignitatis (by right of his office) will be conferred by tlße Universty of Dubln on the Rev. T. H. Sprott, M.A„ the Anglican Bishop-elect of Wellington. Major-General Godley, Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces, will arrive in New Plymouth by the mail train on Wednesday evening, and will inspect the Taranaki Rifles and Taranaki Guards, who will parade at 7.30 p.m. On Thursday Major-General Godley will leave for Stratford.
On severing her connection with the | Inglewood School. Mrs. Martin was last week presentad by the teachers and scholars with a handsome silver cake basket, suitably inscribed. Mrs. Martin (says the Record) has been associated with the school for the pasT ten years,' and lias done excellent work. Mr. W. L. Newman was at lasfc night's meeting of the Borough Council appointed a member of the Baths Committee, and Messrs. G. A. Coney, J. Johnson, F. Xewall, T. Francis, and H. R. Cattley (secretary and treasurer) were appointed to represent the citizens on the Western Park Committee. A press message states that King George, Queen Mary, Queen Alexandra, the Prince of Wales, and other royalties, members of the households, and personal friends, attended a private memorial service to the late King Edward at Windsor. Guns were fired in honor of King George's accession.
