DEVELOPMENT OF TRADE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, May S. Mr. Langdon, a merchant, remarked that Australia was penalising a large section of the trade by excluding it from the preference to British goods because the finishing process was added abroad. Mr. J. K. Bythell, chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, stated that if Australian cargoes were obtainable there would be no difficulty in getting the Shire liners to sail from Australia to Manchester direct.
