SUMMARY AND FORECAST. | - By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Meteorological Office supplies the following weather summary and forecast: —Considerable rain fell last night northward of Kawhia and Napier, but except about the East Cape, where a gale is still blowing, the wind has gone down, and the weather improved to-day. Easterly and south-easterly winds have prevailed in the North Island, and easterly and northerly winds in the South. Present indications are. for moderate to strong southerly winds northward of Hykitika- and Kaikoura, and variable winds elsewhere. Cool and changeable weather is probable generally, the barometer rising, slowly everywhere soon, but only temporarily in the-southern districts.
