At the conference of the Young Maori Party at Te Hauke, Hawke's Bay, a. question in connection with Maori social life was brought to the front by the following resolution:—That viewing the great moral harm suffered by Maori girls, and through them by the whole Maori race, consequent upon their employment in sheep-shearing occupations and as cooks in bush-felling contracts, this conference urges parents and guardians of young girls to deter them from seeking such employment. To this wag suspended a further resolution drawing the attention of the Minister of Labor to the serious needs of the case, and asking for prohibitive legislation.
