DISTRICT NEWS.
TIKORANGI. (From Our Own Correspondent). Despite the humid conditions lately experienced the dairyihg season is rapidly drawing to an end, and the local factory will probably be closed- every other day very shortly. To those companies who sold their output outright the past season will have been a most prosperous one, whilst the guarantee to' reduce the gap between Danish and New Zealand butters will, doubtless, be eagerly taken advantage of by those companies who sent their output Home on consignment..
The manager of the Tikorangi Dairy Company, Mr. Wm. Kilpatrick, has received the gratifying notification that he has secured the highest average, grade at Moturoa for the past season, his average being 94.09. Mr. Kilpatrick is to be congratulated on his meritorious performance, especially as during the months of January, February and March the greater proportion of milk received was from rape-fed cows. The whole of the cream was pasteurised. To those who are in the habit of attending the Urenui sales the hysterical utterances of certain members of the Education Board' in reference to the proximity of the saleyards and school are just ridiculous, whilst the accurate description of the actual state of affairs as given by the -Dailyi News' special representative , will be quite sufficient to convince the general. public that the Board has discovered a ''mare's nest." It has been suggested that the remark of a prominent citizen '• of New Plymouth, made at the householders' meeting last week, that he would not sit on the Education Board at any price, was the cause of the temporary aberration. • „ A ladies' hockey club -has been formed, and Miss Andrews has been appointed captain and Miss 0. Lve secretary. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Foreman, who have been on a visit to the South Island, returned last week. The shooting season opened on Monday, and guns could be heard in all directions, but I have not heard of any big hags. A few people, whose sporting instincts, if they ever possessed thena, have become atrophied through long disuse, were out on Sunday, but with what result is, of course, unknown to any but themselves.
